"Elvis Presley" Plymouth Project: 12 Suicide 1980 a mixed media: watercolour and gouache on paper laid down on board 400 x 275mm by Robert Oscar Lenkiewicz (1941-2002), exhibit 50 In the Suicide Project  which Lenkiewicz put forward the thesis that suicide was in reality “murder through mistaken identity”, where the aim of the suicide was not personal extinction but rather the annihilation of the surrounding world, which had grown intolerable. Lenkiewicz’s purpose in the Project was to explore the personal compromises and social environment that rendered the living aesthetically or creatively dead. Hence, Lenkiewicz saw many social activities as conspiracies undetaken by the indivdual against themselves, rendering them “dead whilst still alive”. Extensivley inscribed in ink to verso in the artist's hand with the title, medium and project etc along with the artist's signatures. Complete with a closed corner gold metal-leafed slip over red bole rubbed through on edges within a closed-corner ‘ROL’ black hand-painted frame overall size: 675x 550mm glazed with UltraVue-UV92 2mm glass: water white for maximum clarity and minimum reflection together with maximum UV protection.
