'Red Rose, Red Coffee Pot'

'Red Rose, Red Coffee Pot'  an original oil on board sight size: 605 x 502mm by Barbara Stewart (born 1929) signed to the lower right. Complete within a closed-corner hand-painted white designer frame with an overall size of 732 x 629mm.

Born in York and studied at York School of Art under Donald Carrington in the early 1950's. She moved to Leicester in 1961 and taught Art in main-stream education and then for 13 years in a school for physically handicapped children.

She was a member of the Leicester Sketch Club, Leicester Society of Artists, Oadby Society of Artists and a member of the Royal West of England Academy as well as the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. 

The Royal West of England Academy bought one of her paintings for their permanent collection and used it as the poster for their Open Exhibition in November 1987. 

She has held solo exhibitions at Leicester Haymarket Theatre and the Leicester Polytechnic as well as exhibiting in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and at the Mall Galleries. 

Barbara Stewart contributed articles to the Leisure Painter magazine and her painting 'Still Life with Marguerites' was featured on their cover in April 1988.
